Otavalo is a largely indigenous town known for its huge Saturday market. If you love shopping, this is one excursion you don't want to miss! Otavalo is famous for beautifully woven textiles, high quality leather goods, and Panama Hats. The market is packed with vendors from local towns, bringing in their handcrafted goods. You might be shocked at how inexpensive these beautiful items are, but don't be afraid to bargain for the best deal. The bus ride to Otavalo is about 2 hours, but is great to combine with a visit to Cuicocha Volcano.
- The Otavalo Market was featured in the book '1000 Places to See Before You Die'
- anama Hats are traditionally from Ecuador but popularized when President Roosevelt was photographed in one while visiting the construction of the Panama Canal
