Itinerary Details:

Day 1: Welcome and Orientation

Upon arrival in Quito, your driver will be ready to take you to your new home away from home, approximately 15 minutes away. After exiting customs, your driver will be holding a sign with your name and have identification for the Garden Hotel San Jose.

Enjoy the afternoon relaxing by the pool or hot tub, or visiting the nearby Chiche Canyon which can best be described as a mini version of the Grand Canyon. It stretches for miles and has a flowing river at the base with plenty of trails perfect for hiking or biking.

Day 2: Solar Temple, Intiñan Museum, & Old Quito Tour

This tour will provide a fantastic setting to practice yoga on location. Great for photos and video, it is also a very spiritual environment.  Being centered at the Equator is quite a special and surreal experience.

Travel about 1 hour to the true Middle of the World! The Temple Del Sol is TripAdvisor's top-rated attraction in Quito. It provides a very spiritual aura and connection with the earth and sun.  Here we will be able to learn more about the culture of indigenous Ecuadorians, the healing properties of essential oils, and view the beautiful art gallery and sculpture garden of world renowned artist Cristobal Ortega.

No trip to Ecuador would be complete without visiting the fun, interactive Intiñan Solar Museum. Stand along the Equator with a foot on each hemisphere and see the incredible effects of the gravitational forces firsthand.

Last we'll visit the cobblestone streets of Old Quito, which brings the past to life in its museums, convents, carved stone facades and golden altars of its many churches.  It’s hard to match the beauty of Ecuador’s natural sites, but Quito does.  While you walk through the cobblestone streets, entertained by local musicians or dancers, you’ll know why Quito is often called the most beautiful city in South America.

Day 3: Mindo Cloud Rainforest Hike, Mariposario Museum and Hotel

Travel into the heart of the Cloud Rainforest, surrounded by the beauty of the rainforest, the tropical flowers and the buzz of hummingbirds.

This morning we depart a little earlier, to commute on a gorgeous 2.5 hour ride to the Mindo Rain Forest.  It is set on 47,444 acres of the nationally protected reserve, Bosque Protector Mindo-Nambillo.  Mindo, one of the world's headquarters for rainforest preservation, is abundant with over 350 species of birds. It is an ideal place to snap photos, swim in lagoons and hike.

We’ll take the Tarabita Skyway Basket over the Mindo River Valley to enjoy a great hike to see cascading waterfalls and possibly jump in for a swim at the Nambillo Lagoon.

In the incredible Mariposario or Butterfly Museum in Mindo, you will truly be surrounded by beauty.  The variety and number of butterflies in the beautifully landscaped museum rivals any other, and they are constantly working to preserve and research these fragile creatures.  We'll stay two nights in Mindo so everyone can soak up the sites and sounds of the rainforest.

Day 4: Cloud Rainforest Zipline, Chocolate Factory Tour

This is a great day to connect with nature, water and fulfill that adrenaline seeker's rush by zipping through the jungle like Tarzan and Jane. A big treat is eating the chocolate bars and brownies in Mindo. The cacao that makes chocolate comes from Ecuador that gets distributed around the world and for that reason the chocolate in Ecuador is the #1 place to enjoy it. It is quite heavenly and chocolate lovers will be thrilled.

Wake up surrounded by the beautiful flowers and buzzing hummingbirds as you walk to breakfast. Today you'll experience an amazing thrill ride, on 10 zip lines, 2000 meters in length that zip along at 100 meters above ground.  Even those afraid of heights have conquered their fears and walked away with the biggest smiles of enjoyment and accomplishment.

An additional rainforest hike will be available in the afternoon, or guests can choose to relax and explore the quaint town of Mindo. You can also learn about the history and production of Chocolate while tasting the freshest and purest chocolate in the world.

Day 5: Teleferiqo Tram, Hike or Horseback Ride at 14,000 ft, Mariscal Market

Try hiking or a yoga practice at new heights where the elevation will bring new challenge.  Don’t forget your camera for this one – the views of the capital city below are unbeatable.

After breakfast travel about 1 hour to the Teleferiqo tram where our adventure begins by ascending to 14,100 feet. At the top we'll walk and see panoramic views of the city of Quito below and the surrounding volcanoes in the distance.  On a clear day you can see all surrounding volcanoes: Antisana (18,700 ft), Cayambe (18,725 ft), and Cotopaxi (19,347 ft). This is a great place to take on miles of hiking trails or a special serene yoga practice. You'll also have the option for a Horseback Ride to see even more trails and views of the city below.

We go back down the cable ferry and head back into Quito to the Mariscal Indiginous Market. Have fun haggling with the local sales people for handcrafted blanket and ponchos, organic coffee, and more treats to bring home.

Day 6: Amazon Basin Rafting

A great way to rejuvenate during the week is to indulge at the Hot Thermal Springs. This will be the best feeling of wellness and rejuvenation a person's body will feel. The volcanic properties from the water help alleviate all stress and the body gets a 100% recharge.

Today’s beautiful drive through the volcanic mountains takes us 2.5 hours away to the Amazon.  The Quijos River offers an excellent 3-4 hour Level III rafting excursion with many challenging rapids that is famous with kayaking and rafting fans. Midway we’ll stop for lunch and games in the sand.  Then continue to experience this rafting tour in the beautiful tropical rainforest surrounded by rich flora and fauna.

After rafting we’ll get a chance to see the powerful Cascada Magica, a giant waterfall where super adventurous people dive in to feel the force of the falls. After working up some big appetites, we’ll be treated to an amazing dinner in a true rainforest cafe.

Day 7: Papallacta Hike and Hot Thermal Springs

Enjoy a day of complete relaxation and rejuvenation!  Travel about an hour to Termas Papallacta, a gorgeous spa located at the entrance of the protected Cayambe Coca Natural Reserve.  The reserve is home to the Andean Condor and other rare birds, Tapirs, and countless varieties of Orchids.  Local guides will answer questions while leading a hike through exotic vegetation and crashing waterfalls.

Finally, all can relax in the naturally odorless and volcanic heated spring pools of different sizes and temperatures in Papallacta. This soothing volcanic spring water contains sulfates, sodium, calcium, chloride and traces of magnesium that create a fully therapeutic feeling of rejuvenation and wellness.  We return by 6:00 pm to give plenty of time to pack and share a fabulous farewell dinner.
